HALF  A  POINT  SHORT!

Durham won their final match against Lancashire at Castle Eden by 4 matches to 3 but failed by half a point to win the Richardson Trophy .  The top three players, Karen Lee, Ruth Lindley and Pat McIntosh got the team off to a flying start but the next three matches all went to Lancashire leaving Lesley Still to secure victory when she won on the 17th.  It was a frustrating end to one of Durham's best performances for years as it left us tied with Cheshire on 8 points but with only 19.5 game points against their 20. There has been an excellent turnout of supporters, well wishers and trolley pullers for all the matches which is much appreciated by the players so a big 'Thank You' to everyone for the encouragement we received. We had a 'New Look' team this year who have already set their sights on winning the Richardson Trophy in 2012.  Watch this space!

VICTORY  AT  KENDAL

The Silver team maintained their winning form by beating the Cumbrian Vets at Kendal.  Champion  Karen Lee gave the team a head start with a win over Alison Wood while Ruth Lindley was hot on her heels winning her match against Isobel Wiliams.  Wins by Chris Pascall, Marianne Moore and Lesley Still made the final score 5-2.

With only the Lancashire match remaining for Durham (28th July at Castle Eden), the overall situation for the Richardson Trophy is as tight as it could possibly be!  Cheshire have played all their matches, losing only 1 for  8 points (20 game points). Yorkshire have not won any matches this season and Cumbria have won only one but have one more to play - against Northumberland who, like Lancashire and Durham have lost only one match so far. Any of these three counties could finish with 8 points to tie with Cheshire but would need at least 20.5 game points to overtake them.  Lancashire currently have 12 game points with two matches in hand, while Northumberland have 11.5.  Durham have 15.5 game points but with only 1 match to play so need to beat Lancashire by at least 5-2.

ANOTHER  WIN  FOR  DURHAM  VETS

The Vets team maintained their winning form against Cheshire on Friday, winning by 4 matches to 3.  Champion Karen Lee made a fighting recovery from  1 down after 14 holes against Caroline Marron to win on the 18th.  Pat McIntosh was narrowly beaten by the very experienced Sue Dye and former Durham player Barbara Laird (nee Mansfield) won her match against Ruth Lindley. The Durham tail however wagged strongly with wins from Marianne Moore, Lesley Still and Anne Biggs. With two matches remaining against Cumbria at Kendal and Lancashire at home and some topsy turvy results from other counties, hopes are high that Durham will finish the season with two more victories.

VICTORY  OVER  YORKSHIRE

The Durham team had a very successful visit to Hessle on Monday  winning 4 matches and halving 1 for a 4 1/2  -   2 1/2 victory.  New girls Karen Lee and Pat McIntosh both won their games as did Marianne Moore and Barbara Cheetham. Ruth Lindley got the valuable half.

On Friday (1st July), the team will play its third match against Cheshire at Castle Eden.  Let's hope the winning form continues. The first game will tee off at 10.00am

MATCHES  V  NORTHUMBERLAND

The opening match in this year's Richardson Trophy competition was played at Castle Eden on 9th June. Despite several very tight matches our team lost to Northumberland by 5 games to 2. However, the following Monday our Bronze team went to Whitley Bay, where Durham  were victorious, winning by  3 games to 2 with one match halved.

The only winner in the Silver match was our new Champion Karen Lee with Chris Pascall and Anne Biggs managing to halve their games.  The Dinsdale pair of Kate Brown and Margaret Corcoran got the Bronze team off to a good start by winning the top match. Pam Bolton (Blackwell) and Mags Pearce (Seaton) got a half while Pam Stephenson (Eaglescliffe) and Carol Blakeborough (Dinsdale) won their match 6&5. Joyce Davidson (Bishop) and Marion Goodyear (Brancepeth) won the fifth game to secure victory as Northumberland's last pair just managed to beat Janet Archer (Barnard Castle) and Sue Haynes (Blackwell).

The  next outing for the Silver team will be against Yorkshire at Hessle. There are two changes in the team for this match; Lesley Still and Barbara Cheetham
